On July 24, 2003, NBC-CAM secretary/treasurer, and former CAI and Foundation for Community Association Research board member, Jerome M. Fien, CPA, CMCA, passed away. A professional accountant, Jerry retired as managing partner of Samuel Klein & Co. in 1987 and promptly turned his focus to various causes of personal interest—one of which was CAI. He spent two decades as president of his homeowners association in West Orange, New Jersey, was involved in the creation of the National Board of Certification for Community Association Managers (NBC-CAM), contributed to numerous CAI projects, and even earned the CMCA certification. His pet project, however, was always to make the financial burden as small as possible for homeowners to attend national CAI events.
