About Jerry Fien

On July 24, 2003, NBC-CAM secretary/treasurer, and former CAI and Foundation for Community Association Research board member, Jerome M. Fien, CPA, CMCA, passed away. A professional accountant, Jerry retired as managing partner of Samuel Klein & Co. in 1987 and promptly turned his focus to various causes of personal interest—one of which was CAI. He spent two decades as president of his homeowners association in West Orange, New Jersey, was involved in the creation of the National Board of Certification for Community Association Managers (NBC-CAM), contributed to numerous CAI projects, and even earned the CMCA certification. His pet project, however, was always to make the financial burden as small as possible for homeowners to attend national CAI events.

Las Vegas Conference

In April 2007, two scholarships were awarded to individual homeowners that demonstrated a thorough involvement in their communities. This included, but was not limited to, involvement in their community association as a board or committee member as well as involvement at their local CAI Chapter. This scholarship allowed them the opportunity to attend CAI's national conference in Las Vegas, NV. After the submission of numerous applications, each was reviewed by the Foundation for Community Association Research's Executive Committee. The applicants were chosen and notified of their selection. The individuals awarded the Jerry Fien scholarship for this particular conference was Craig Finck of Plainfield, IL, and Rita Guthrie of Aurora, CO.

You too can be considered for this scholarship! The next scholarship offering will be for CAI's 57th National Conference and Exposition in Orlando, FL. Please see the scholarship application for more details.
